Summary: If Sasuke was dangerous and unpredictable like like fire, did that mean Sakura-chan was a pyromaniac?

Behind the bars of his cell, Uchiha Sasuke’s emotionless black eyes stared at the district attorney and one of the police officers assigned to his case. “I see you’ve come to grace me with your presence again Hyuuga in my humble abode… that means that there has been another fire.”

Although he didn’t show it, Sasuke felt a familiar gratification at the sight of the attorney’s clenching fists and the agent’s burning glare.

“I’m asking you again Uchiha, who knows enough about your signature fires to copy it. Who is the arsonist copying you?” Neji Hyuuga asked for the hundredth time. “Is it someone you know? Maybe… someone who loves you enough to imitate your fires and keep you out of prison? Is it a member of your family, Uchiha? One of your friends… or maybe it’s your precious girlfriend?”

“None of them, in fact I’m pretty sure the real arsonist is still out there. And he or she will continue to terrorize this city with his fires.”

“Then why are all the victims connected to you?” Officer Rock Lee bit out, as he stared at the Uchiha.

“I don’t know, maybe it’s one of my fangirls. All I know is that all the evidence you have against me are Naruto’s suspicions, the fact I’m a child pyromaniac like the most members of my family and while you’re trying to convict me the fires are still continuing. Do you really think it will be enough to convince the jury?” A smirk appeared on Sasuke’s face as he continued, “Face it, Hyuuga you failed. Your case will never convince the rest of the court even if I was guilty of committing those crimes you’re accusing me of.”

… oOo …

Haruno Sakura silently entered the Uchiha home with the key Sasuke-kun had given to her to use. She stopped for a single second to wave at Mikoto, who was baking in the kitchen. Then she ran up the stairs towards Sasuke’s room and entered quickly, closing the door behind her.

Now she just had to find the proof that she was wrong about her foolish suspicions, even though her mind kept telling her wasn’t. No, instead it was her heart who refused to believe it and wanted solid proof before confronting Sasuke about it. That it wasn’t her boyfriend who was behind the torching of Akayama Ami’s car and Abumi Zaku’s apartment.

Uchiha Sasuke had a nasty habit of taking his vengeance against those who crossed him and anything he considered his. As his girlfriend Sakura fell in the last category and those two idiots just happened to have crossed him by hurting her.

She didn’t didn’t remember the exact circumstances but she did know it was that moment in junior high when she first learned about Sasuke-kun’s unhealthy fixation. For the longest time she had suspected that her boyfriend was a pyromaniac or an arsonist as she highly doubted it was pyrophillia. Or maybe it was a bit of both, she didn’t know. All she knew was that she had to prove to herself that she was wrong about Sasuke.

Before she knew it, Sakura had torn apart the room in her search for evidence. It was on his laptop in folder called Katon where she found the proof she so desperately hadn’t wanted to find. Sitting down on his bed, Sakura’s jade orbs strolled down all the documents until they finally settled on the last two files titled Akayama and Abumi. Opening them Sakura knew she had found her proof even as she felt her heart shatter into a million pieces.

So absorbed with reading Sasuke’s detailed notes, Sakura hadn’t heard the approaching footsteps until the sound of the door opening caught her attention. Her head snapped up as she stared in Uchiha Sasuke’s emotionless black eyes like a deer caught in the headlights.

… oOo …

“Well this surprise. Come to visit me, Naruto?”

Uzumaki Naruto stared at his best friend, Sasuke didn’t act as if he had been in jail for the last two weeks. He had never seen so unkempt before. His hair was greasy, ratty and the beginnings of a black beard where beginning to show on his face but the Uchiha’s demeanor hadn’t changed. Naruto couldn’t stand it

“I had to tell them Sasuke what if someone had gotten hurt!”

“Then why are the fires continuing even when I’m trapped here.”

… oOo …

“Why?” That one question could mean a million things, but Sasuke knew what she meant. “Because they hurt you.”A flash of anger appeared in Sakura’s eyes. “And that gives you the reason to burn their car and house!”A smirk appeared on Sasuke’s face. “You make it sound like a bad thing.”The shock she felt was clearly seen on her face. Making a chocking sound, Sakura sputtered, “Of course it is a bad thing. Arson is a crime Sasuke.”

The smirk widened as Sasuke knelt down in front of her. He took one of her hands and placed a kiss on each finger. “Not if you’re an Uchiha.”

… oOo …

He had told the police about his suspicions concerning Sasuke, his best friend. He had not done it with less then honorable intentions and now he had deal with Sasuke’s girl who happened to be his crush.

“Sakura-chan…” Naruto guiltily stared at the pinkette while she continued to ignore him. The pinkette only focused her book, the novel appropriately named Firestarter. “You know I had to tell the police. Someone could get hurt because of what he did.”

Seeing he wouldn’t get any form of reply, Naruto turned to leave. Just when he was about to turn the corner he heard her speak up.”Is that what you tell yourself to deal with your guilt Naruto?”

“Sakura-chan.” Naruto watched the girl who hadn’t turned from her her earlier position.

“Is that what you tell yourself to deal with your feelings of guilt in the darkness of the night when your lie in your bed?” Sakura turned a page before she lifted her head to look at him. “Just admit it Naruto you were jealous of Sasuke because he had me.”

… oOo …

Sakura ran towards the Uchiha home as fast as her legs could carry her. When the building appeared in her line of vision she picked up speed and before she knew it she slammed the door open. Itachi, Shisui, Mikoto and Fugaku stared at her as she tried to gain her breath.

“Sasuke-kun is arrested for arson!”

Mikoto dropped the bowls she was holding, rice spilling across the kitchen floor. Shisui and Fugaku’s angry ‘what’ were heard through the entire house while Itachi recovered the fastest. “Sakura, what happened? Where’s Sasuke?”

“W-we were on a date and on the way home the police suddenly appeared and -arrested Sasuke-kun! They, they wouldn’t let me accompany him to the police station because I’m not family, so I came here as fast as I could…th-they arrested him, they arrested him!”

When Sakura finished her story, Fugaku took control of the situation. “Itachi, Shisui you two go and find out who sent the cops after Sasuke. Mikoto you stay here with Sakura and help her calm down. Also stay alert if the police or Sasuke call. I’m going to the police station.”

Soon the men had left and Sakura finally broke down in Mikoto’s arms.

… oOo …

Sasuke smirked when Hyuuga Neji appeared in front of his cell, the expression on the district attorney’s face was thunderous.”Uchiha you’re released, your case is dropped. Their has been found evidence the arsonist is still out there.

“Why thank you officer,” Sasuke smirked as the bars of cell slid open. “didn’t I told you so.”

… oOo …

“Naruto,” Itachi said as he placed a photo of Naruto talking to the police on the table everyone was seated around. “He was one who talked to the police. Although Uzumaki only had suspicions not actual evidence.”

“We will leave Uzumaki alone, if only in memory of his parents.” Fugaku said as he stared at the picture but not really seeing Naruto. No he saw an old friend, a man who died 17 years ago. “Let’s focus on Sasuke for a while. Anyone have an idea?”

Sakura and Mikoto exchanged a glance before the latter spoke up. “Sakura and I have a plan.”

At Fugaku’s nod, Sakura continued where Mikoto left off. “We become a copycat.”

“I don’t get it.” Shisui was the one to voice the thoughts of the two other men in the room.

“We, dear gentlemen, are going to copy Sasuke’s fires.” Mikoto placed her hands underneath her chin, the same position her younger son often assumed. “Making the police believe the arsonist is still out there.”

… oOo …

As he watched Sasuke and Sakura walk away, Naruto noticed smoke coming from his house. Before he knew it Naruto had started to sprint until he reached his home, pushing his way through the crowd before he came to an abrupt stop. All he could do was watch as his most prized possession, his cross motorcycle, burn down. But he had just talked to Sasuke. Had he been wrong? Sasuke wasn’t the arsonist? Was it just plain coincidence? Turning toward it, he saw Uchiha Fugaku smiling at him. Fugaku never smiled, he smirked yes but never smiled. Naruto stared as his ex-best friend’s father walked away, his legs collapsing under him as Fugaku disappeared from sight.

Comments: Pyromania was my second favorite story of this 1st week and was beta-read like all my stories by the wonderful halfkyuubikat . This story contains several flashbacks whom you can recognize as they are italic. Pyromania will probably have a version due the fact I had sacrifice several plots in favor of finishing this story before my vacation, so look forward the Pyromania V2.
